After looking through the comments on the previous post, I wanted to
make a couple more points on McCain and life. John McCain is not
perfectly in line with my views on abortion. But that is not the
point. To be blunt, the point of being pro-life is saving babies,
and I think he is our best chance to save the most. Number one,
he has the best chance to get elected in the general election, and he
would obviously be much better than Clinton. Number two, he’s
very good on the life issue, not perfect, but very good- that means
he’d sign the legislation we need and that he would put the right
judges up. Number three, he is a great compromiser, maybe he
could work something out with the democrats on this issue. If
anyone could do it, he could. I don’t know what it would be, and
whatever it was wouldn’t be enough, but it would be far better than
what anyone else could work out- maybe after Roe v. Wade goes to the
trash heap it deserves they could pass a bill limiting abortions to
rape or incest, or at least to the first trimester. It’s all
about keeping things in perspective, and if we are going to get
anywhere on abortion in this country, I think John McCain is our guy in
’08.
